About Dr. Yoon Hyo Choi — Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon

Welcome, and thank you for visiting.
My name is Yoon Hyo Choi, and I am an orthopaedic surgeon in Seoul, Korea, specializing exclusively in disorders of the foot and ankle.
Every day in my practice, I meet patients whose lives have been quietly limited by their feet — a bunion that makes every step painful, an ankle that never fully recovered from an old injury, a tendon that gave out without warning.
My work is to give those patients their mobility back, and wherever possible, to do it through the smallest incision modern surgery allows.
My approach: minimally invasive, evidence-based
A major focus of my practice is minimally invasive surgery (MIS) of the foot and ankle, including minimally invasive correction of hallux valgus (bunions) and arthroscopic treatment of ankle cartilage injuries such as osteochondral lesions of the talus.
At the same time, I am always careful to emphasize that minimally invasive surgery is a tool, not a slogan. Not every foot is best treated through a small incision, and an honest surgeon should be able to explain why a particular approach fits — or does not fit — your specific anatomy and goals. When you consult with me, you can expect a candid discussion of all reasonable options, including non-surgical treatment, before any decision is made.
Training and academic background

I completed my medical degree at Seoul National University College of Medicine and went on to finish my orthopaedic surgery residency at Seoul National University Hospital. I then pursued a clinical fellowship dedicated to foot and ankle surgery, and subsequently served as a Clinical Assistant Professor, combining patient care with teaching and research.

During my training, I had the privilege of studying under Professor Kyoung Min Lee, whose rigorous, evidence-based approach to orthopaedics has profoundly shaped my own practice.

Beyond the operating room, I remain actively engaged in academic medicine. I regularly present at national and international conferences and have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including papers in leading journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS) and Bone & Joint Research.

For patients
I will do my best to give you an honest, informed answer — even if that answer is that you do not need surgery at all. I look forward to meeting you, and to helping you take your next step in comfort.
